April 22nd 2001 - Earth Day Two stamps were issued on April 22nd 2001 to celebrate Earth Day. The original Earth Day was started in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes, and is based in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. The goal of Earth Day is to promote a healthy environment and a peaceful, just, sustainable world by spreading environmental awareness through education and events. Volunteers picking up trash on a Hawaiian beach is just one of several events that happen every Earth Day in Hawai'i. The $5 stamp (above right) prepays the Overnight rate. It shows a view of the planet Earth from space, plus a map of the Hawaiian Islands. A dolphin is in the upper right hand corner - representing the animals in the ocean that we need to protect. The $3 stamp (above left) plus the $5 stamp prepays the Same Day rate. It shows a view of the planet Earth from space, plus a map of the Hawaiian Islands. A butterfly is in the upper right hand corner - representing the animals on the land that we need to protect. A Booklet consisting of 2 panes containing 3 x $3 and 3 x $5 stamps was also issued. Each pane consists of 3 stamps and a label and has a white margin all around. "© 2001 Hawai'i Post" is printed vertically on the lower right side margin & Hawai'i Security Printers, Honolulu, Hawai'i. is printed on the bottom margin of each pane. The label on the booklet pane reads "Keep Hawai'i Beautiful". The booklet cover is of green card stock and is stapled twice at the left side. WE ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS ON ALL ORDERS
