January 29th 2006. Chinese New Year - the Year of the Dog.

Three stamps were issued on January 29th 2006 to celebrate the first day of the Lunar New Year, The Year of the Dog.

Asian folklore says that people born in the Year of the Dog can possess the best traits of human nature. They are loyal, honest, and can keep secrets. But Dog people can be somewhat selfish, distrust others, are very stubborn, and a little eccentric. Wealth does not mean much to them, but somehow they always seem to have money and make an excellent business person. Emotionally they can be aloof and at social gatherings somewhat distant. They take a while to warm up to others. They are happiest when physically active at home or at work. The Dog will always be constructing something new or be cleaning something up in order to make things better. They can make good leaders.

The $2 stamp (above left) prepays extra charges, such as additional weight. It shows a Dalmatian puppy dog. A distinctively spotted dog which bonds very closely with its owner, more so than other breeds, and will exhibit separation anxiety when left by itself.

The $5 stamp (above middle) prepays the Overnight rate. It shows a Cocker Spaniel puppy dog. The world's most popular household dog. An excellent bird and small-game hunter and they are very friendly with children.

The $8 stamp (above right) prepays the Same Day rate. It shows an American Foxhound dog. This breed is almost entirely used for hunting as he can work for many hours without a break.

A Booklet consisting of 3 panes containing 2 x $2, 2 x $5 and 2 x $8 stamps was also issued. The cover shows a Pointer dog. Each pane consists of 2 stamps and has a white margin all around. "© 2006 Hawai'i Post" is printed vertically on the lower right side margin & Hawai'i Security Printers, Honolulu, Hawai'i. is printed on the bottom margin of each pane.

The special postmark for this issue (above) shows the head of a dog.
