June 4th 2009. Paintings (Part 1 in a series). Three stamps and a minisheet were issued on June 4th 2009 depicting Paintings. The original paintings of all four designs shown can be found in the Honolulu Academy of Arts. It is well worth a visit if you are vacationing in Hawai'i. The $2.50 stamp (above left) pays for extra charges, such as additional weight. It shows the painting "Hawaiian Child with Poi Bowl" painted by Theodore Wores in 1901. The $6 stamp (above middle) prepays the Overnight rate. It shows the painting "Hawaiian Fisherman" painted by Lionel Walden in 1924. The $9 stamp (above right) prepays the Same Day rate. It shows the painting "Wheatfield" painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1888, a couple of years before his death. The $9 minisheet (above) prepays the Same Day rate. It shows the painting "Two Nudes on a Tahitian Beach" painted by Paul Gauguin in 1891-1894. The special postmark for this issue depicts an artists color palette.
