July 13th 2011. Hawaiian Philatelic Society Centenary.

Two stamps and two minisheets were issued on July 13th 2011 to celebrate the centenary of the Hawaiian Philatelic Society.

The Hawaiian Philatelic Society. was established on April 13, 1911 in Honolulu. The first HPS exhibition was held on May 8, 1913. On display was a collection of Hawaiian stamps that included two rare Missionariy stamps.

HPS is an affiliate of the American Philatelic Society and currently meets every second Monday of the month in Honolulu. The meeting usually consists of HPS business, followed by a slide show, a stamp auction and sometimes a swap night.

The HPS journal "Po'oleka O Hawai'i" is published quarterly. From 1951 until 1986, HPS sponsored HAPEX, a yearly stamp show. Colorful labels were issued at each HAPEX and some are depicted on the stamps.

The $6 stamp (above left) prepays the Overnight rate. It shows an issue of the quarterly HPS publication "Po'oleka O Hawaii".

The $9 stamp (above right) prepays the Same Day rate. It shows two labels from a sheet of labels issued by the HPS for the 40th Anniversary HAPEX Stamp Show, held on June 27-30 1951. The inverted center on one of the labels was printed this way on purpose.

The $6 minisheet (above) prepays the Overnight rate. It shows the souvenir sheet of 4 labels issued by the HPS for the HAPEX Stamp Show, held on November 5-8 1970.

The $9 minisheet (above) prepays the Same Day rate. It shows an envelope with a special cachet and cancel issued for the 70th Anniversary HAPEX Stamp Show, held in February 1981.

The special postmark for this issue (above) depicts a 2c missionary stamp from Hawai'i.
