August 2nd 2012. Small Islands of Hawai'i. Three stamps and a minisheet were issued on August 2nd 2012 depicting small islands of Hawai'i. These are the first ever triangular stamps issued by Hawai'i Post. The $2.50 stamp (above left) prepays additional charges such as extra weight. It depicts the small island of Mokoli'i. This island is also known as Chinamans hat because of its shape. It has been featured in several movies shot in Hawaii. It is located off the east coast of Oahu and it is a favorite destination for kayakers, swimmers and day trippers. The $6 stamp (above middle) prepays the Overnight rate. It depicts the small island of Molokini. This small island is the remains of a sunken volcano. Located off the west coast of Maui, it is a very popular diving area as it has a large coral reef. The $9 stamp (above right) prepays the Same Day rate. It depicts the small island of Lehua. This is another sunken volcano, and is located off the northern coast of the island of Niihau. A light on its highest point is maintained by the U.S. Coastguard which can only be reached by helicopter. All three islands are uninhabited and protected in one way or another as Bird sanctuaries or nature reserves. Access is allowed by the public, although only Mokoli'i is worth landing on and exploring. The other two are barren steep rocks. The $9 minisheet (above) depicts a map of Hawai'i (excluding the Big Island) showing in red where the small islands on the triangular stamps are located. The special postmark for this issue (above) depicts the small island of Mokoli'i (also known as "Chinaman's Hat") on the east coast of O'ahu. WE ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS ON ALL ORDERS
