The special cachet above shows a newsclipping from "The Polynesian" newspaper of January 31 1852 with details of the sailing of the S.S. Constitution. The special postmark for the above cover was issued for January 31 2002 only. The outer circle reads "FIRST PADDLE-STEAMSHIP SERVICE / HONOLULU, O'AHU" or "LAHAINA MAUI". The center lines across read "1852 2002 / JANUARY 31" with a ship's wheel in the upper center. "HAWAI'I POST" in the lower center.

A First Day Cover was issued on February 1 2002 with a special cachet and postmark.Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet above has a short history of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The special postmark for the above cover was issued for February 1 2002 only. The outer circle reads "ROYAL HAWAIIAN HOTEL, WAIKIKI, O'AHU, FEBRUARY 1 2002, HAWAI'I POST". The inner circle reads "GRAND OPENING - 75th ANNIVERSARY". The center of the circle shows an outline of the cupola atop the hotel.

On the left vertically is "HAPPY NEW YEAR" and below that is "YEAR OF THE HORSE" in Chinese. Text explains the origin of Pa'u Riders. The special postmark for the above cover was issued for February 12 2002 only. The outer circle reads "CHINATOWN, HONOLULU, O'AHU, HAWAI'I POST". The center lines across read "FEBRUARY 12 2002" with an outline of a horse above it.

The special cachet shows the Duke Kahanamoku statue on Kuhio Beach, Waikiki and the text is about the history of surfing in Hawai'i. The special postmark for the above cover was issued for August 24th 2002 only. The upper circle reads "HAWAI'I POST*WAIKIKI BEACH, O'AHU". The lower circle reads " AUGUST 24 2002". The center of the circle shows a surfer on his surfboard, with the surfboard extending outside the circle.

The special cachet shows a portrait of Augustin Fresnel and his lens for lighthouses and the text is about his invention and lighthouses. The special postmark for the above cover was issued for October 21st 2002 only. The upper circle reads "HAWAI'I POST". The lower circle reads " DIAMOND HEAD, O'AHU". The center of the circle shows a lighthouse and its beams with "OCT 21 2002" in 3 lines.

A First Day Cover was issued on December 3rd 2002 for a special postmark. Covers were made in white only. The cachet shows the 2002 Christmas tree at Honolulu Hale (City Hall). The special postmark in green was first issued on December 3rd 2002 and has a variable date. The upper circle reads "WAIKIKI, O'AHU HAWAI'I POST". The lower circle reads " MELE KALIKIMAKA & HAU'OLI MAKAHIKI HOU". The center of the circle above the date shows a depiction of Santa Claus. (Note that no stamps were issued with this cancel, and that the FDC sold with this cancel may have a different $5 stamp than the above illustration).
