The Year 2005 First Day Covers issued by HAWAI'I POST®February 9 2005 A First Day Cover was issued on February 9 2005 (the first day of the Chinese New Year) with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white (shown) and gray. The special cachet shows the head of a Rooster. Text says "Year of the Rooster" in English and Chinese, with Happy New Year, vertically. The special postmark for the above cover was issued for February 9 2005 only. The upper circle reads "*CHINATOWN, HONOLULU, O'AHU*". The lower circle reads "HAWAI'I POST". The lower inner circle reads "FEBRUARY 9 2005" with the symbol for the Rooster (in simplified Chinese) in the center. Black ink was used. The special cachet shows the three orchids shown on the stamps plus a short description of each one. The special postmark for both covers was issued for March 3 2005 only. The upper circle reads "* ORCHIDS II *". The lower circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, WAIKIKI, O'AHU". The lower inner circle reads "MARCH 3 2005". A cattleya orchid is in the center. Purple ink was used. The special cachet shows a photo of the late Pope John Paul II. Text says "1920-2005 - IN MEMORY OF POPE JOHN PAUL II". The special postmark for the above cover was issued for April 2 2005 only. The upper circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, WAIKIKI, O'AHU". The lower circle reads "POPE JOHN PAUL II - APRIL 2 2005". The center contains the Papal Coat of Arms for Pope John Paul II. Covers were made in white (below) and gray (above). The special cachet shows the headlines in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin newspaper dated April 17 1935 and other articles about the historic flight. The special postmark for both covers was issued for April 17 2005 only. The upper circle reads "FIRST PAN-AM FLIGHT CALIF.-HAWAI'I".The upper inner circle reads "70TH ANNIVERSARY". The lower circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, HONOLULU AIRPORT". The center contains the date "APRIL 17 2005" next to the original Pan American Airways logo which was used from 1928. Covers were made in white and gray (shown). The special cachet shows a photo of Princess Ka'iulani in the banyan tree on the Ainhau estate, together with her family. The text has a short history of the Princess, Ainahau.and the Princess Ka'iulani Hotel. The special postmark for the above cover was issued for June 11 2005 only. The upper circle reads "1955 - JUNE 11 - 2005". The lower circle reads "PRINCESS KA'IULANI HOTEL, WAIKIKI". The center shows a peacock, one of the favorite pets of the Princess. Black ink was used. The special cachet shows a montage of stamps issued by Hawai'i Post over the years. The special postmark for both covers was issued for June 13 2005 only. The simulated stamp reads "Fifth Anniversary of the First Postage Stamps of Hawai'i Post". The circle cancel in the upper circle reads "HAWAI'I POST". The lower circle reads "WAIKIKI, O'AHU". Covers were made in white and gray (shown). The special cachet shows the rear of the $50 Hawaiian Bank Note with a short history.

The lower inner circle reads "JULY 18 2005". The center depicts the numeral "50" as depicted on the $50 Hawaiian Bank Note. The special cachet has the three Proteas as shown on the stamps plus a short description of each one. The special postmark for both covers was issued for August 10 2005 only. The upper circle reads "* HAWAIIAN FLOWERS II *". The lower circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, WAIKIKI, O'AHU". The lower inner circle reads "AUGUST 10 2005". A King Protea is in the center. Covers were made in white (above) and gray (mini-sheet below). The special cachet shows General Douglas Macarthur signing the Treaty of Surrender for the Allies. The special postmark for both covers was issued for September 2 2005 only. The upper circle reads "* END OF WWII 60TH ANNIV. *". The lower circle reads "PEARL HARBOR, O'AHU, HAWAI'I". The lower inner circle reads "SEPT. 2 2005". A peace dove is in the center. Black ink was used. To order the FDC's click here October 5 2005 A First Day Cover was issued on October 5 2005 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows a photo taken during Hurricane Iniki plus a short description of the event. The postmark for this issue shows the text "HURRICANE RELIEF * WAIMEA KAUAI * HAWAI'I POST * OCTOBER 5 2005" in a hurricane-like twirl, with an "eye" in the center. The town chosen was Waimea, Kauai where Hurricane Iniki came ashore in 1992. Black ink was used. Covers were made in white (mini-sheet below) and gray (stamps above). The special cachet has the welcome sign on Palmyra with the current population, plus a short history of Palmyra. The special postmark for both covers was issued for December 1 2005 only. The upper circle reads "* THE NATURE CONSERVANCY *". The lower circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, PALMYRA".
