January 22 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on January 22 2004 (the first day of the Chinese New Year) with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows a monkey up a tree holding a banana. Text says "Year of the Monkey" in English and Chinese.

The special postmark for the above cover was issued for January 22 2004 only. The outer circle reads "*YEAR OF THE MONKEY HAWAI'I POST CHINATOWN, HONOLULU*". The lower center reads "JANUARY 22 2004" with a monkey in the center.

February 14 2004


A First Day Cover was issued on February 14 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark (Kealakekua Bay, Hawai'i). Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows the portrait of Captain Cook by Dance and an outline of HMS Resolution. The text has a short history of Captain Cook and his death in Hawai'i.

The special postmark for the above cover was issued for February 14 2004 only. The outer circle reads "CAPTAIN COOK'S DEATH * KEALAKEKUA BAY, HAWAI'I". The inner circle reads "HAWAI'I POST * 1779 2004 * FEBRUARY 14" with an outline of the Captain Cook monument at Kealakekua Bay in the center.


March 19 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on March 19 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows the three fishes shown on the stamps and a short description of each one.

The special postmark for the above cover was issued for March 19 2004 only. The upper inner circle reads "WAIKIKI AQUARIUM CENTENARY". The lower inner circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, WAIKIKI, O'AHU" with an outline of a fish in the center. The lower center lines read "MARCH 19 2004".


May 5 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on May 5 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray for both the triptych and mini-sheet. The special cachet shows the three flowers shown on the stamp triptych and minisheet and a short description of each one.

The special postmark for the above cover was issued for May 5 2004 only. The upper inner circle reads "HAWAIIAN FLOWERS". The lower inner circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, WAIKIKI, O'AHU" with a Hibiscus flower in the center. "MAY 5 2004" in the upper lower center.


June 7 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on June 7 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows the three lighthouses shown on the stamps and a short description of each one.

The special postmark for the covers was issued for June 7 2004 only. The left inner circle reads "HAWAI'I POST * JUNE 7 2004". The right inner circle reads "BARBERS POINT, O'AHU, HAWAI'I". The center depicts the original Barbers Point lighthouse, which was replaced in 1933 by the modern structure shown on the stamp.


July 6 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on July 6 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows a whaling scene in the 1880's as depicted on the scrip on the $8 stamp. Plus a short history of money in Hawai'i.

The special postmark for the above covers was issued for June 7 2004 only. The upper circle reads "HAWAIIAN MONEY". The lower circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, KOLOA. KAUA'I". The lower inner circle reads " JULY 6 2004". The center depicts the $3 numeral as shown on the scrip on the $5 stamp.


August 23 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on August 23 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows a 'ukulele and a short history.

The special postmark for the above covers was issued for August 23 2004 only. The upper circle reads "125TH ANNIV. OF THE UKULELE". The lower circle reads "HONOLULU, O'AHU". The center depicts a 'ukulele and the date "23 AUG. 2004".


August 26 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on August 26 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows two photos. One of Charles Lindbergh in the cockpit of a plane and the other of the church where Lindbergh is buried on Maui. Plus a short history of his life.

The special postmark for both covers was issued for August 23 2004 only. The upper circle reads "30TH ANNIV. CHARLES LINDBERGH'S DEATH". The lower circle reads "KIPAHULU, MAUI". The center depicts depicts Lindbergh's empty pilot's helmet (actually more of a head warmer) and goggles that he wore on his famous flight.


October 8 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on October 8 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray for both the triptych and mini-sheet. The special cachet shows the three medicinal plants shown on the stamp triptych and minisheet and a short description of each one.

The special postmark for the above cover was issued for October 8 2004 only. The upper inner circle reads "HAWAI'I POST. OCT 8 2004". The lower inner circle reads "MEDICINAL PLANTS. HONOLULU, O'AHU" with an 'Awapuhi kuahiwi flower head in the center.


November 11 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on November 11 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows the blueprint for a Sikorsky S-38. The text has a brief history of the airline.

The special postmark for the above covers was issued for November 11 2004 only. The upper circle reads "HAWAIIAN AIRLINES ANNIVERSARY". The lower circle reads "HAWAI'I POST, HONOLULU, O'AHU". The center depicts a Sikorsky S-38 airplane. The lower inner circle has the date "NOVEMBER 11 2004". The upper inner circle has "75TH".


December 15 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on December 15 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows a portrait of King Kamehameha III. The text has a brief history of his reign.

The special postmark for the above cover was issued for December 15 2004 only. The upper circle reads "KING KAMEHAMEHA III". The lower circle reads "'IOLANI PALACE, HONOLULU, O'AHU". The upper inner circle reads "150th ANNIV. OF HIS DEATH". The center has "KK III" on two lines. The lower inner circle has the date "DECEMBER 15 2004".


December 31 2004

A First Day Cover was issued on December 31 2004 with a special cachet and a postmark. Covers were made in white and gray. The special cachet shows an aerial view of 'Iolani Palace. The text has a brief history of the Palace.

The special postmark for the above covers was issued for December 31 2004 only. The upper circle reads "125TH ANNIVERSARY". The lower circle reads "'IOLANI PALACE, HONOLULU, O'AHU". The center has a line drawing of 'Iolani Palace. The lower inner circle has the date "DECEMBER 31 2004".
